Hi Parents

We are pleased to remind you that the next 2 weeks are short weeks and next weekend is a long weekend! Hopefully your family will get a bit of respite and enjoy some outside time together. On Friday May 15th, there is a PD day and Monday May 18th is Victoria Day so there won’t be school meetings on those days. On both these weeks we will be adjusting the classwork to reflect a short week and we will be hosting our classroom meeting on Tuesday May 19th instead of the regular Monday meeting. Remember that currently we are integrating most of our Language Arts program into both our social studies and science activities. Students are working on comprehension skills as well as writing skills as they do these activities. 

Science:

This week in science students will be learning about producers, consumers and decomposers. They need to watch a short video to learn the differences between these organisms, do a Google Draw sort activity and then have some time outside in order to find examples in their environment. They can take pictures, draw or simply write what they have seen. Please do this activity in whatever way is most comfortable with your family. That might be a walk on Nose Hill, time in your backyard or simply looking for pictures online if you are uncomfortable with getting outside at this time.

Math:

This week in math, students have 2 math lessons and a quiz. The quiz will cover the work that students did last week as well as the lessons they will do this week. Please ask them to complete the work before attempting the quiz so they can show a true understanding of the work they have done.

Social Studies

This week the students are assigned a locked room. They will need to have explored the Social Studies Website created and shared with them last week, as it will contain all the information they need to solve the locked room.  They may need help to follow the clues given in order to open each lock. Teachers are available each day for support. Please direct them to join their teachers at the appropriate time if they need help.

Literacy

This week students will be working on making inferences when reading. After watching an introductory video about inferencing they will complete a reading detective activity and record their answers. Also don't forget that every day at 10:30, I am on my Google meet for our novel study, reading Holes.
